The Braxton Bunch -- Maggie May, Little Lucy, Kissy Kira, Bailey Boy,
and Sam the Man -- came into our rescue from the Braxton County Animal
Shelter in Sutton, WV. The shelter manager there is a wonderful,
caring person who works extremely hard to get the shelter dogs &
pups to rescue. When he told us about these precious little ones --
and they are little, topping out at barely 3 lbs -- we were thrilled to
be able to bring them into our rescue. These little ones are happy, friendly, outgoing puppies. They love people and will clamor for people attention. They love to crawl into my lap for snuggling, hugging and kissing. I think our mutual favorite time of day is when they all pile on me in one big puppy pile to take a much needed nap after lots of play!! The best we can tell (and this is an educated guess only), we think the pups are a mix of shepherd and akita. Both breeds have wonderful qualities (e.g., intelligence, loyalty, and being loving and protective of their families). Additionally, however, both shepherds and akitas are strong-willed and need a strong human leader to guide them to develop properly and achieve their full potential. For this reason, we are recommending that these pups go to experienced dog families. Already, these pups are exhibiting some of the characteristics that are the hallmarks of their heritage. Although they are tiny, young puppies, they are already almost papertrained (not 100%, but pretty close). In less than about 10 minutes, they figured out how to use the doggie door at my house. And that is a sight to see, given that they are so small, their little legs can barely make it over the threshhold!! Several of them are also already catching on to the concept of going outside to potty. So, I would say that these pups are quite intelligent. Additionally, although they are quite small right now, what they lack in size, they make up for in spunk. They are a rather feisty bunch -- they love to play and wrestle & also mouth off at one another, which is again quite entertaining given their diminutive size!! Any of these pups will make a wonderful addition to an adoptive family who understands the needs of these beautiful but strong-minded breeds. Remember, although these pups are tiny right now, they will grow into stunning, good-sized dogs who will flourish only with strong, consistent human leadership. If you have the ability and willingness to provide that, along with plenty of love, for the rest of the pup's life -- regardless of what lies ahead in yours -- please fill out an online adoption application on our website (www.homewardbound2u.rescuegroups.org). After we receive your complete application, one of our volunteers will be in touch. If after you have completed your application, you would like more information about the Braxton Bunch pups, please contact foster mom Cindy at cmonaco1@juno.com. Finally, these pups are being fostered in upstate NY, about an hour's drive southwest of Albany. Transportation to approved adopters from PA or MD can be arranged at least as far as Binghamton, NY. We may be able to arrange transport all the way to central PA, but that will depend upon our volunteers' availability on the appointed adoption day. Transportation issues can be discussed and arranged with foster mom Cindy. Thank you for wanting to open your heart and home to one of these beautiful rescue puppies.
