Rachel is about 10 months old. While we don't know whether or not she is a purebred golden retriever, she certainly has a great deal of golden in her based on her looks and personality. While Rachel did not come from the best of circumstances (she was found tied to a porch, with no water, little food and living in a very small, dirty space with no clean areas to eat and sleep) she is living in the moment and her moments now are very good. She is incredibly sweet, affectionate and loving. She is playful if she has a willing playmate. With older dogs who are not so interested in her romping, she is gentle and respectful. With those more willing, she is fun loving and very playful. She has a lot of energy and like most retrievers, likes to be constantly by your side. She loves to go in the car and is well behaved, with the exception of climbing into the drivers seat as soon as its empty. She is great with other dogs of all sizes and is fine with cats too. She'll play with them if they are willing, but again respectful of older more grouchy cats that aren't. She is not much of a barker. She comes readily when called, knows how to sit and enjoys all sorts of stuffed and hard toys. She can be a little bit of a chewer when left alone without her toys, but generally is not destructive. So far only one flip flop has met its end in 2 weeks in her foster home. Rachel has learned how to use a dog door and lets herself out to go to the bathroom. She is also sleeping in her foster's bed and holds it all night for fear of losing her sleeping space. Rachel is very attentive and needs an owner or family who understands that Rachel, like most goldens wants to be with you as much as possible. Her foster mom would recommend her with any age child, other animals or cats. She will make someone a wonderful, loyal and loving companion.
