Senior Golden Retriever Abandoned by Family

Abbey was dumped in a shelter by her family because they said she was too old.  I find it hard to believe that anyone could throw away somethone as sweet as Abbey.  It's just as well that we've gotten her away from them.  Her coat was severly matted due to neglect, so we had to have it shaved off of her.  She looks a bit funny right now, but she feels better and i love running my hands over her fuzzy body.   Once we got her shaved down we could see how underfed she had been and we've plumped her up a bit since she first arrived.  She had some hair loss on her tail, so we had a full CBC panle run on her and she came back remarkably healthy.  We believe the hair loss was due to the stress of being in a shelter.  The bare spot has since filled in with hair and pretty much matches the rest of her body.
