If you would like to get pre-approved to adopt thru Homeward Bound Animal Rescue, but aren't quite ready to take a dog home.  Please select Pre-Approval on our adoption app when it asks what pet you are most interested in adopting.  Getting pre-approved is a great way to get started.  Just because you don't see a dog that you like on our website doesn't mean he/she isn't in one of our foster homes waiting to get listed.  We rescue pregnant dogs or dogs who have recently delivered from kill shelters or from owner surrenders.  Because the puppies are so young, we do not list them.  We only list our puppies until they are 7 days past their first set of shots which puts them at about 7 weeks of age.  When we list our puppies, they are a week away from adoption age - 8 weeks.  We will begin to release the puppies to approved adopters once they are 8 weeks old and have a health certificate from our local vet.  We do not hold puppies for anyone, so please do not ask the foster parent to do that for you.  When we hold a puppy for you, you have just tied up that foster home, and we cannot save that next pregnant dog from being euthanized in a kill shelter.  It may sound melodramatic, but it's the truth.
